Came here early for comedy show and got dinner. The food was mediterranean inspired and excellent. The plates are small but well prepared and taste excellent. Dont be fooled by when you walk in. The layout of the downstairs feels more like just a bar. The food is worth the trip alone.

We came here for the comedy club and that was a blast! We've been to two Comedy Machines where comedians compete against each other and both times the comedians were hilarious. You can order food and drinks while enjoying your show or you can eat at the restaurant below. If you're coming for a show, it's best to get there earlier because it gets really crowded (it's not a very large room). The first time we got there 30 mins before the show and had a few appetizers at the restaurant, but the second time we got there late and barely found seats that weren't in the very front.

Not an overwhelming amount of menu items, which means what comes out of the kitchen is cooked to perfection. For a small place e they have a very well stocked bar, nice place to go for happy hour. Everyone there is extremely pleasant and professional. Noticed great teamwork by everyone there.

We originally went here because we had a brunch coupon and we enjoyed our meal. We decided we wanted to come back for dinner sometime. My spouse ended up having my surprise birthday party here. I had a great time. The staff is very nice and friendly and the food was great too! We will be going back to try their pulled pork sandwich.

I just started going to this place to see the Comedy Oakland acts. What a cool place. If you haven't been you should go check it out. I recommend this place to anyone and everyone. We all should support this business. From owner to staff to comics they put out a real good vibe. It's an enjoyable night out.

I have been to spice monkey a couple times. The food is great and the venue is eclectic and very Oakland. We also appreciate the comedy nights upstairs. 5 shows a week and the prices are not too high!

Lamb Burger was fantastic! Perfect char, great bun and the beet salad on top complimented the burger beautifully! Good beer but not the widest selection.

It's located in the best building in Oakland with one of my favorite murals. The food was very flavorful and I'd order everything I had again (pork belly Asian tacos, cornmeal chicken fingers and spicy mint tea). The girl who helped me did not seem demonic despite her black monochromatic tattered clothing and Satanic Feminist t-shirt.
